A D’Appolito project/experiment - BBBBMTMBBBB configuration
One day Thomas phoned and asked for advice for his future Home Theatre.
He wanted a 7.2 surround system with the capability of playing high-end stereo.
Then I thought about his project for a couple af days.
The conclusion was at that time: Loudspeakers in or on the walls, a kind of line-array/D’Appolito/one point-source, good impulse response,
big membrane area of bass section, air-motion transformer driver from Mundorf, quality 6,5” midrange ScanSpeak
and of course active amplification. The subwoofer setup might be 21” EighteenSound driver in dual ported box –
of course two of these, which would be tested later on. – Or a lot of 12” driver in closed arrangement or ported.
Sometimes you have a good idea - you think - but it turns out it wasn't. This gallery is a profe of this...
Below you will see a proto type of the front speaker. We bought a lot of cheap 6,5” VIFA drivers at an exhibition –
these work as bass in closed chambers. They might stay on in the final speaker or swapped with ScanSpeak or
Audio Technology drivers. The Mundorf drivers are borrowed – will very likely stay, but Thomas wants a test run
with ScanSpeak R2904/700009. The midrange will be two ScanSpeak 18W/8531G00 in each front box and center.

Boys will be boys - the bigger they get, the bigger their toys will be!

What - am I doing? Too many cables!

Quite a big one - too big? Robert says NO, it's perfect!

A small test run under less good conditions - but this early sound check shows the prospect of a great system. -
Testing the loudspeakers in Ole's unfinished Home Theatre - approximately 45m2 and very nice ceiling height!

These big loudspeakers fit Ole's Home Theatre rather well.

The boys are getting ready for listening on a Freiday afternoon and evening.

Hooking up the gear - after some measurements.

The boys are listening - at different "levels"...if you see what I mean -
We listen for some time to the speakers placed right against the wall as I had intended them to be placed,
but the bass lacked precision no matter what we did to EQ them

Thomas suggested to move the speakers away from the wall - hey that helped a lot
- the bass got very precise, so my idea of "wall-speakers" fell apart with these boxes

Thomas has decided - the Mundorf tweeters has to go, even though the three other boys liked them. -
Next step unknown at the moment - maybe pro drivers??? - definitely new loudspeakers - YES pro drivers
